Pacific Cultural Competency

The Pacific Health Division provides cultural competency development to health professionals once a month.

Pacific Cultural Competency trains participants in the following six key recovery competencies:

  • Knowledge of the diversity among the different Pacific cultures
     

  • Awareness of the demographics of CMDHB’s Pacific population

  • An understanding  the role of the family, religious and community obligations and  respect for authority plays in the healthcare of Pacific people

  • Knowledge  of Pacific people’s traditional views on health

  • Knowledge of the role of the Pacific Health Support Services  and when and how to access their service

  • Ability  to work with Pacific patients, their families, community and services.

 These competencies are based within the Metro-Auckland developed Cultural Competency Framework.
